Is Stress Affecting Your Fertility?

Did you know that women trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant have levels of stress, in terms of anxiety and depression, equivalent to women with cancer, HIV, and heart disease?

According to Harvard Medical School, stress plays a big role in fertility. When we're under stress, our body chemistry changes. These changes adversely affect the ordered releae of hormones that regulate the maturation and release of an egg. For example, when a woman is under stress, spasms occur in both the fallopian tubes and the uterus, which can interfere with movement and implantation of a fertilized egg. Sperm counts, motility and structure are also adversely altered under stress.

And it's a vicious cycle. Stress adversely affects fertility and then you're stressed out because your not getting pregnant so stress causes it and then the experience of infertility causes more stress.

TTC Mind Body Spirit Coaching tackles the stress-infertility issue head on. While stress management programs do not cure infertility, the mind-body approach has been proven to reduce anxiety and increase relaxation.
